We currently have Gallery Server Pro version 2.1.3162 installed as part of our (old) corporate intranet. The environment is Windows 2003 Server, IIS6 with .Net 3.5, running against a SQL Server 2005 database. We have several albums with several thousand photos, complete with captions.

We have just moved our corporate intranet to a Sharepoint system (MOSS 2007) running on Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, and SQL Server 2005. Windows Server 2008 is the 64 bit version. We are alos moving our other web sites to a new Windows Server 2008 / IIS 7 (64 bit) server.

My questions are about what would be the best way to move our Gallery site - the options I see currently are:

1) Upgrade the existing installation to the latest version (v 2.3.3512) on the current IIS 6 platform, and then move it to the new IIS 7 server. This will require some minor site changes - rather than have the gallery as a section of the existing intranet site (intranet.mississippi.org/gallery), I am thinking of a new site - say "gallery.mississippi.org". To migrate the data, is all that is required to copy the physical media directories to their new location (which is outside the web server directory tree), and export and import the database?

2) Don't bother upgrading the existing site, but to make a fresh installation of the latest version on the IIS7 server, and migrate the data from the old site to the new one. Can this be done using the backup / restore sections of the admin menu in Gallery Server Pro?

3) Similar to step 2 above, but some how have the photo gallery as a "subsite" under the main Sharepoint site. This sounds rather scary to me - I would prefer to get everything working on the IIS 7 server, using the latest version of Gallery Server pro, and then worry about the Sharepoint integration.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You have a few options, but I recommend upgrading your existing site to 2.3, then moving it to the new location. The Admin Guide has detailed steps for both actions. Look for these sections:

* Upgrading from Gallery Server Pro 2.0 - 2.3
* Migrate Gallery Server Pro to a new gallery

Note that the backup/restore only works within the same version, so don't back up your 2.1 data and expect to import it into a 2.3 version. (I wish you could do that but it is difficult to implement.)

There are changes in the web.config file between IIS6 and IIS7, but GSP includes all the settings needed for both versions, so you shouldn't have any issues there.

Good luck and let us know if you have any trouble.

Well, I upgraded the existing installation - all went very smoothly. And it appears to correct some problems I was having that I reported here:

Problems Uploading Files

Now to try a fresh install on the new web server.

Thanks
