I'm installing gallery pro on a website hosted by CrystalTech.com.
I have Sql server 2005 on the host and can connect to it, however I had to use my admin account (w/ admin privileges). It had an odd error when attempting to create an account with reduced privileges (SQL server accounts, not Windows).
I chose to script the asp.net membership. I set up my server pro admin account
Then when creating the database -

Ready to Install

Click Next to update the database and configure Gallery Server Pro.

I got this error.... (below)... not sure what happened. Any idea?

Thats funny! I'm also trying to install gallery server pro on my crystaltech account and i got the SAME error - i found its due to your FTP client.... i assume your using a ftp client Filezilla or something? .... To fix this use the windows built in ftp client to upload the files instead.... so delete everything in the gallery folder... open my computer... in the address bar type ftp://yourusername:yourpassword@yourcrystaltechwebsite.com and hit enter... then copy the files into that folder and it will upload.

That fixed it for me - and gallery server installed fine... however I can't get images to show up! - I have the exact javascript errors as in here http://www.galleryserver...d-javascript-error.aspx so i'm wondering if its related to "Classic" mode or something... I can't find where in crystaltech to change the mode...

Let me know if it works for you!

Check out this thread. It appears that somehow the encoding on the SQL script files is being changed.

I have used FileZilla to copy files to remote servers and then ran the SQL scripts without trouble, so it is more complicated than just blaming FileZilla.

I just did a test on my local system where I switched IIS to Classic mode, and everything still worked correctly, so I am not convinced there is an issue with Classic mode in IIS. Javascript errors are usually caused by a misconfigured web.config file which causes one or more required javascript files to be missing in the browser.

Thanks for the reply - well yeah the encoding error was what I had at first but thats fixed... Now i have this javascript error ie dblogin undefined and no pictures are showing up.. I've tried reinstalling it (after deleting the folder) with the same error... I can't restart my IIS or change to classic mode because its a shared webhost... I'm using the web_sqlserver_3.5.config file since i'm running on Medium Security i believe... any suggestions?. I've tried changing the web.config files to all the other ones (with reinstalls) with no luck...

Have you tried sending a private message (PM) to the original poster (goinawry) to see if they got it working on your web host?

Another suggestion is to take the files on your hoster and see if they work on your local machine. That will tell you whether the issue is with the files (maybe a misconfigured web.config file) or something with the hoster.

OK, it's installed. I ftp'd to my crystal tech site and wiped out all the gallery server pro folders and files. I kept all my updated files, web.config and all on my PC, so I had all the SQL server updates and .net 3.5 config files ready to go. Using filezilla, I uploaded everything again, but I chose the type - binary (going windows to windows for me).
I started up the install - ... default.aspx?g=install and went through the instructions. I could not get gallery pro to create it's own sql server account/password... had to use an account I created (this may be a crystal tech thing? I dunno).
Anyhow... it all completed. I logged in, made an album and uploaded a pic.
Good stuff!

Progress! I read here http://weblogs.asp.net/c...g-sys-is-undefined.aspx in section 4 where it talks about ScriptResource.axd and incorrect mappings... so i talked to my host again and it turns out they had .axd mappings undefined! - perhaps you could add the debug code at the bottom of that page into a future release to give a clear warning that scriptresource.axd was not loaded and thus there is a problem with the asp installation..

Now i can finally login and upload images and stuff - there are no sys. or dglogin undefined errors.... However images are still not showing up... i can upload an image but i can't view it ... maybe i need to get my host to restart IIS?

Just found that the Back and Forward buttons (next image etc) don't work - if i have an album with more than one image..and i press the next button.... it freezes up and my cursor turns to an hourglass... I can then click on the album name above to go back to the index view.. everything seems to be working fine except clicking next from when viewing these images..

I found an error was being kicked up related to .asmx also not being registered - i got my host to fix that and now the error is gone (no errors anywhere now) .. but i still can't browse back and forward - are there any more ASP ismapi extensions that should be registered that your code might be using to browse back and forward (but nothing else??) Thanks

That sounds like all of them but I could be missing something. You should use a tool to inspect the net traffic between the browser and the server. That will tell you if there are resources being requested that never get served. There are many to choose from - Firebug is easy to use if you have Firefox.
