Videos with different aspect ratios

Hi all,
is there a solution to only configure a fixed Pixel size for one direction and have the other being calculated depending on the aspect ration of the video?
I have a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 videos. My problem is that all videos are played in 800x600, which leads to wrong aspect ratios with 16:9 videos. Is that a limitation of flowplayer?

Thanks for your help,

Best,
Markus

I don't see the same behavior. In the demo gallery there are two videos with different ratios that use FlowPlayer.

16:9: http://www.galleryserver...com/demo.aspx?moid=8837
4:3: http://www.galleryserver...d=3207&dt=1&g=4

The FlowPlayer container is the same size in both cases, but FlowPlayer puts black bars along the top and bottom of the 16:9 video to preserve the aspect ratio.

Can you confirm that the demo videos play correctly for you?

Hi Roger,
I see your examples correctly.
The video that led me to the post is here:

http://fve.de/pictures/default.aspx?moid=45193

The preview conversion obviously ended up with an incorrect aspect ratio (conversion rule is .mp4 to .flv). If you download the preview, it also plays locally with the wrong aspect ratio.
The fullsize mp4 video plays correctly sized when downloaded, but runs with the 4:3 AR in Flowplayer. Could it be that Flowplayer does not rescale when switching between preview and full size? (I see that normally that should not be necessary, if the conversion to the preview format runs correctly).

Thanks and best regards,

Markus

It looks like the MP4 => FLV encoding changed the aspect ratio. The default encoding settings do not encode MP4, as that is already a web-friendly format, so you must have changed this. If you really want an FLV version of your MP4 video, you can probably play with the encoder settings on the Video & Audio page to get it done the way you want. Specifically, you may want to specify the width and height in encoder arguments. Use normal syntax as described in the FFmpeg documentation.

Hi Roger,
I used the flv-encoding because my mp4 videos have high bandwidth and I wanted to create a streamable lowres version. As my video sources and formats vary (club comrades upload their videos), I have a problem setting up a rule with fixed format or aspect settings.
Anyway - thanks for your time, these are things I have to take care of myself...

Best,
Markus
