I did something odd...
I registered a new user account. Consequently I received an email to verify and activate the new account.

However, at the time I clicked the link in the email, I was logged in in another browser window as another (already existing) user.

When I clicked the link I was brought to that browser window, as that other user, and nothing happened. The new account was not verified and activated.

I realize this is an unlikely scenario. But perhaps when an activation link is cleared the website should ignore the account from anybody already logged in before proceeding? Perhaps even a forced logout?

Or did I do something wrong?
