Maybe I did something wrong. But I have a User Role that is limited to viewing just a few Albums in a Gallery under 'All Albums'.

When that user just logs in, the 'All Albums' page is shown with the few albums that the user has permission to. But the Summary field in the header remains empty. Perhaps because the user does not have full rights to the 'All Albums'.

A user in a role that has full permissions to the 'All Albums' can see the Summary field.

This seems wrong to me. If a user can view a level, he should see the Summary for that level.

Can anybody help me?

You are seeing the correct behavior. You have not given the user permission to view the root album, so the security system substitutes a virtual album to serve as the container for the albums he/she can see.

If you want the user to see the summary for an album, they must have view permission to that album. Hope that makes sense.

I figured it would be something like that. But when I try to assign the permission to view the root album, it must automatically include permission to view all the albums below it.

Is there anyway to get around this?
Either provide permission to view the root album, but not all sub-albums?
Or provide the summary of the root album anyway?

I am considering a small code change in Albumheader.ascx.cs.

You will have to edit the code to change the behavior. As you noticed, when you apply a permission to an album, all children inherit that permission, and there isn't a mechanism to remove an inherited permission.
