Just set up GSP for the first time and got everything up and running. I pointed it to a share with a bunch of images and started a sync, but got the following error in the log. I also tried removing the image that it died on, but got the same thing on the very next file. I tried up loading the image into the demo site and it seemed to work fine. Any ideas?

Update: Unchecking the advanced metadata extraction option appears to allow the sync to run, but every image still generates an error in the log same as the above. In the live demo I uploaded two of the pics and all the metadata seems to be extracted and available.

Was there a patch applied to the live demo that hasnt been released yet? I did find a patch in the forums for the business.dll dated november that I tried as well, but no change in results.

Thanks.

The demo site is using a stock 2.6.0 release. Does the sync process fail, or are you just noticing entries in the error log? At any rate, you should get the same results as the demo site, assuming your configuration is the same (running in full trust, same version, etc).

Can you send me a problematic image for me to study? Provide full details of the error message that the image causes on your system. Email me at roger*at*techinfosystems*dot*com

mmmkam and I were working on this via e-mail, and he thinks he fixed it. Here is his reply:

Thanks. I think I just found fixed it. I am using a WHS 2k11 server running the drivepool replacement for the old drive extender functionality. I was using the UNC network share path for the galler source material and when I changed it to a direct drive path on C:\ it started working. I left the target path for thumbnails as a different UNC share path and that seems to be working fine. It just a guess but I think drivepool may detect the file getting accessed and lock it for some reason as the source share I have drivepool set to do a duplication/shadowcopy and the thumbnail share is simply stored on the pool drive without a duplication.

If I figure out more I will pass it along so you have it for future users that may run into similar issues, but for now I think I am good.

Thanks for your help.

Another issue I ran into for anyone using WHS 2011 (and I think v1 did this also) is that I have found that WHS will reset the permissions on the default shares so the app pool identity permission will be removed every now and then. I created a non default share "Gallery" vs "Pictures" and it seems to retain its permissions and I havnt had any issues.

I still havnt identified the root cause of the origional issue with the UNC path, but it seems to be working fine as currently configured.

Thanks again for the assistance Roger.
