Hello,
I recently installed GSP; great program. I see that an album can be created as "Private" so that a User must be logged in to view it. Is there a way to password protect an album like you can on the image sharing website Fotki? Or, is it possible to make a User's album only viewable by the logged in owner? My goal is to give Users an easy way to share files both openly and privately.
Thanks,
-Chris in Milwaukee.

There isn't a way for a user to share albums with other arbitrary users, unless they have admin permission and can create users and roles. That is a feature I plan to implement in one of the next versions.

You asked "is it possible to make a User's album only viewable by the logged in owner?" The answer to this is yes and is a common way to set up the user album feature. All you have to do is make sure users are not in any roles. That way they will only be able to access their own album.

Roger,

I'm considering using your superb tool for displaying kindergarden media, but I have some issues in setting up the privacy policy as I want. This is also related to the topic above I guess.

I disabled anonymous browsing in the Site Admin area and I created parent logins. Each parent is in a "parent" role to see shared photos and movies of all kids for all parents. This works great and is the prefered way of not exposing all content.

But now I also would like to create a private album or space to share/push documents to the parents individually, fi invoice and other adminstration documents.

I did not found a way to do this easily, I could create roles for each parent linked to dedicated albums. But that will be unmanagable after some time I guess.

Dou you have an idea?

Many, many thanks!
Best regards,

Nico

Dear Roger, (and other interested ;o)!)

I found a solution for my problem above.

I created anoter role with no rights in a new album.
In the user settings I enabled user albums and I choose the new album for creating user albums into...

The user must be added to this second role.

Result:
Now I have protected shared albums and 1 private user album to push information to.

Great work!

Glad you found a solution. A couple notes:

1. I don't understand why you needed to create a role with no rights. Seems like that would have no effect.

2. By default, the user album feature will give each user admin privileges to their album. If you want to give them read-only access to their album, modify the permissions of the Album Owner Template role. To see it, select the checkbox 'Show roles that support the album ownership and user album features' on the Manage Roles page. Note that this change only affects user albums created after the change; to modify existing user albums, you'll have to edit each user album role (which, again, can be seen with the previously mentioned checkbox selected).

Roger,

Indeed, I did not need to create the role with no rights. It works!

Thx for your support!
