Hello,

I just upgraded from 2.5 to 2.6
During this I ran into the folowing problem:
I copied the files from the upgrade package,
Restarted the site and proces in IIS,
Opened the default page,

It showed the message it missed Create Table permission.
After granting the permission, it did not find dbo user.
Also granted the dbo permission, and it worked as before.

Wouldn't it be bether to ask for administer login?
Like during the initial install?

I revoked the permissions, and it looks it still works.
But I do not know if it wil stop working again without the permissions?

Kind regards,

Jan

You should be fine going back to your old permissions, since the elevated permissions were only needed to change the DB schema for the new version.

I have to balance the pros and cons of many things in GSP. While I could in theory ask for new login credentials, that would require building a UI to support it, and currently the 2.5 => 2.6 upgrade does not use a UI - it just silently happens in the background. It would take time and delay the release.

As a compromise, I describe in the Admin Guide how the upgrade process requires elevated permissions, and if this affects you, to either provide those permissions before upgrading or modify the connection string in web.config to a different account. I believe this is the appropriate balance.

I do appreciate the suggestion, though.

Thank you for your reply.
Indeed a compromise, and I think a good one.
I'm too much used to program for windows, not the web.

The new version seem to perform much better.
Thank you for the good job you are doing.

Kind regards,

Jan
