I think it would be a great feature to be able to select a view for an Album. The thumbnail view is perfect for photo albums, but isn't very useful in an album filled with documents, since the thumbnail is a generic document type image. Another problem is that with documents we provide, most tend to have very long filenames to be as descriptive as possible, and in the thumbail view, we only get the very beginning of the filename, which defeats the purpose of being descriptive with the filenames. Now the full filename can be viewed if the users hovers over the thumbnail, but this is cumbersome when just trying to browse for a file.
A better solution might be to have either a list type view.
One such view could use the same thumbnail used now, but would only have 1 listing per row, with the full filename and additional metadata (file size, creation and modified dates, etc.) to the right.
Another solution would be to have a simple list type view that offers one file per line with a small thumbnail for the filetype (1/6th the current size or so), but that would support a long filename to the right would be nice as well, so that the user wouln't have to scroll that much farther to find the file (about six short rows per single row now for a size comparison).
Perhaps both as an option would be nice as well.
I also believe this feature would really work best if it could be applied on a per-album basis as opposed to on a per-gallery. The option to change the view could be at the administrator's discresion (forced view / user changable with a default set)
