GSP 2.5 (with patch)
Windows Home Server 2011
IIS 7

Hi,

I'm trying to change the "path to original file directory" and am getting the following error:

Quote:
Gallery Server Pro cannot write to the directory "E:\ServerFolders\Pictures". This may be due to insufficient permissions. Check that the directory exists and that the web application has read, write and modify permission to it. If the application is running at less than Full Trust, the path must be within the web application. By default, the IIS worker process runs under the ASPNET user in IIS 5 and 5.1, Network Service in IIS 6 and 7, and IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool in IIS 7.5. NOTE: You may need to restart the IIS application pool to force your changes to take effect.

I've given "Network Service" read/write access but that didn't work. I've also checked that the "gallery" .Net trust level is set to Full in IIS7.

Thanks.

The right solution depends on the particulars of your installation. I recommend temporarily giving the Everyone group Full permission to that directory, being sure to use the advanced option to re-apply the permissions on all child objects. That should guarantee access, and once you verify that, you can play around with specific account and groups until you've narrowed it down to the right one.

Just don't leave the Everyone group in charge of that directory - big security hole!

Thanks Roger. I added Everyone with read/write and it worked. There's something funky going on with the folder permissions and "Network Service", it allows me to add Network Service with read/write permissions but when I go back in after saving "Network Service" has disappeared.

Very frustrating! But a windows problem, not a GSP problem so I'll leave you in peace!

Many thanks.

Sorry I still need help for this. I have added the user "Network Service" with read/write permissions and the permissions are staying intact, but I still get the error. What exactly is meant by "web application" in the following?

Quote:
Check that the directory exists and that the web application has read, write and modify permission to it

If anyone has any suggestions as to which user I need to grant access to it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

"web application" means the IIS application your gallery is running in.

Have you tried giving permissions to the IIS_IUSRS group?

No luck. This is incredibly frustrating :-( Surely there is straight forward steps for changing the default folder?

What do you mean "changing the default folder"? I thought you were trying to resolve a permissions problem. At any rate, I don't have any experience with Home Server, so I may not be much help. You might want to consult a Home Server forum.
