Roger,

Congratulations again on GSP 2.5 and for removing AjaxControlToolkit and other DLLs. You inspired me to rewrite any AjaxControlToolkit-based functions from Sueetie, which is now also AjaxControlTookit free. (I'll be hat-tipping you when I post about it. :)

My question for you is about the future of Component Art in Gallery Server Pro. At 2312KBs it's even more of a hog that the AjaxControlToolkit. I realize CA is deeply rooted in GSP functions, but I was wondering if you were thinking about moving to jQuery alternatives as you did with AjaxControlToolkit. Personally, I would LOVE to see CA gone from GSP.

Whenever you can find time for a reply would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I agree. As you mentioned, getting rid of CA is a much bigger project, but one that I very much want to do. Things like the dialogs, file upload, and grids (including the complex hierarchical grid in the error log) need to be reproduced with some other technology, which almost certainly requires another 3rd party product.

My goal is to replace CA functionality with jQuery and jQuery UI widgets whenever possible. I am watching with extreme interest the new jQuery UI Grid being built.

Roger,

Sounds fantastic. Couldn't agree more.

I'll be blogging when my sites are running GSP 2.5. I personally think v2.5 is one of your most significant upgrades yet. Multiple galleries in v2.4.4 was pretty huge, but I think architecturally with the single x32/x64 build and removal of some of the heavier DLLs that 2.5 is even more important.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on CA going forward.

Best regards,
Dave
